Do You Know When it's Time to Replace Your Brakes?

We all know that brakes eventually wear out and need replacing, but do you know how often you need to get them replaced? Do you recognize the warning signs indicating that it's time to bring your vehicle in for a brake replacement?

Generally, you should replace or service your brakes every 30,000 miles or so (check your owner's manual for a more specific number that the manufacturer recommends). However, if you're driving in busy traffic, or doing a lot of stopping for traffic lights, or just driving in any situations that require heavy, regular braking, you're likely to wear the brake pads out much faster than if you're doing most of your driving on open highways.

The most optimal time to examine your brakes and determine if they need replacing is any time you bring your vehicle into our Service and Repair Center for your regular service appointment. Our technicians can assess your brake pads and discs, advise you that they need immediate repair or notify you that they'll need replacing soon.

Barring that, there are a few signs to alert you that your brakes need attention. The clearest is when your car doesn't stop right away after you've pressed the brake pedal; if this is the case, you need to have the brakes serviced immediately.

If you're able to see the brake pads through your wheel rim, check their condition. When your brake pad gets to less than a quarter-inch of tread, you're risking damage to the brake discs if you don't replace the pads quickly.

Of course, that annoying screeching sound is another indicator that your brake pad is gone and that you're jeopardizing the brake discs. Not only is the sound grating to listen to, but this is a dangerous situation that needs addressing immediately.

Replacing your brake pads is a routine and simple procedure for our expert technicians. We invite you to use our convenient online service appointment scheduler, where you can choose a date and time that's most convenient for your appointment.
