Top Tips for Proper Tire Care

We all know how important it is to keep your tires properly inflated, both for maximum fuel efficiency and all-around safety reasons. And most of us know how to use the "penny test" to check and see if we need to replace our tires, depending on if you can see Lincoln's head above the tire tread or not. What some people don't know, however, is why tires need to be rotated and balanced on a regular basis.

If your tires show heavier wear on the outside than the inside, or the reverse, then you might have an alignment issue that can't be resolved by a set of new tires alone. Since tires that are properly aligned, rotated and inflated have a much longer lifespan and also save money on gas, it only makes sense to make sure that you schedule regular tire service. Here are our top pieces of tire advice:

  • Rotate your tires regularly. By following the manufacturer's recommended schedule, you'll be able to extend the life of your tires.
  • Keep your tires inflated to the proper psi (pound per square inch). Tires can lose one psi per month, and air temperature can affect tire pressure significantly. It's been proven that low tire pressure reduces gas mileage, and excessive heat build up from under-inflated tires can lead to damage.
  • Check regularly for uneven or excessive tire wear. While uneven wear may be attributed to an alignment issue, it's still advisable to have the tires professionally inspected for all potential causes.

Our expert technicians will rotate and balance your tires, following the tire manufacturer's recommended schedule. If you need an alignment to straighten things out, our technicians can handle that also.
